"Are there any green/ecofriendly aspects to the race?"

The MCRRC Green Team will be collecting any used shoes for recycling/donation. Collection bins will be available at Packet Pick-up and the Start Line. REI is generously providing reusable bags for race packets. Because Montgomery County now accepts all paper cups and beverage cups for recycling, the Green Team will be collecting the water cups as well as plastic bottles for recycling.

Green Features/Going Green

Shoe Drive: Help us reach our goal of 1000 shoes!
The MCRRC Green Team will be collecting any used shoes for recycling/donation. Shoes with some life left will go to someone in need via local charities, while well worn shoes will be transformed into athletic surfaces and other products cia a partnership with Nike Reuse-A-Shoe. Collection bins will be available at Packet Pick-up and the Start Line. Questions? Email: greenteam@mcrrc.org.

Reusable Bags
REI is generously providing reusable bags for race packets. Did you know only 5% of plastic bags are recycled in the U.S., and plastic bags take ~1,000 years to degrade in a landfill?

Recycling Water Bottles and Cups
Because Montgomery County now accepts all paper cups and beverage cups for recycling, the Green Team will be collecting the water cups as well as plastic bottles for recycling.
